MIAMI.- The U.S. Virgin Islands will be host of the opening match of League C in the Concacaf Nations League with a Group A encounter versus the Cayman Islands.
The match will be the first time the senior team has played in the Bethlehem Soccer Stadium in St. Croix., so it will be a brand-new stadium that kicks off a brand-new competition and a new era in the Concacaf region.
Playing in their new home will give the team and the islands in general a bit of added excitement, but nothing will come easy against the visiting Cayman Islands side.
The road to League B begins here and every point will count in a hotly contested group that also contains Barbados and Saint Martin.
This will be the first time in history these two sides have faced off in an official Concacaf competition, so bragging rights are on the line in addition to the crucial points up for grabs.
Both sides ended CNLQ with their best showings of the competition; the U.S. Virgin Islands defeated Anguilla 3-0, while the Cayman Islands performed well and scored a beautiful team goal despite falling 2-1 to Montserrat, and no doubt both squads are hoping to continue that upward momentum on Thursday.
