THE VALLEY, Anguilla — Saint Martin are preparing to play Barbados in their third and final home match of the Concacaf Nations League in Group A of League C, and they hope to perform at the same level as in their previous home outings.
In their home opener in September, they fell 2-1 to the US Virgin Islands, but after conceding twice in the opening minutes the team looked fantastic for the final 85.
Back in October, Yannick Bellechasse scored a hat trick to lead his side to a surprising 3-0 victory over group leaders Cayman Islands in this same stadium.
That result proved to be huge for Barbados, who took the opportunity to reclaim first place heading into this final window of matches. The Tridents have not had any trouble putting the ball into the back of the net so far, with a group-leading 11 goals in their first four matches.
Nicholas Blackman leads the way with three strikes, while Omani Leacock and Rashad Jules boast two each.
As the group winds down, the stakes are higher than ever. Barbados cannot afford to drop points with the Cayman Islands hot on their tail, and Saint Martin will want a victory to help sure up third place.
