BELMOPAN, Belize – There will be plenty at stake in Group A of League B of the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League when Belize play host to visiting French Guiana on Thursday at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, Belize.
Currently second in the group with five points, French Guiana must win if they are to keep their hopes alive of a 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup berth and promotion to League A, while Belize will aim to climb out of the relegation zone with a victory.
French Guiana have relied on a stifling defense thus far in the CNL, having conceded just three goals.
Much of the credit belongs to GK Simon Lugier, who registered seven saves in the last two matches, including a clean sheet in a 0-0 home draw with Grenada on October 10.
Thursday’s encounter marks the first ever meeting the two sides after logistical issues prevented Belize from being able to travel to French Guiana on Matchday One.
Belize will want to make up for lost time and in FW Deon McCauley, they have a player capable of putting any team to the sword.
The 32-year-old is Belize’s all-time leading scorer with 24 international goals and already has a goal in the current CNL.
