GROS ISLET, Saint Lucia – Montserrat will be looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat to El Salvador in their Group B finale versus Saint Lucia in League B of the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League on Tuesday afternoon at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.
The Emerald Boys looked set to secure a point in a goalless draw against El Salvador on Saturday night, only for the Cuscatlecos to strike in stoppage time, leaving Montserrat empty-handed despite an otherworldly performance from GK Corrin Brooks.
But another chance comes Montserrat’s way on Tuesday against a Saint Lucia side that is also keen on collecting a full three points.
Montserrat could leap-frog the Dominican Republic into second place and a spot in the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup qualifiers with a win, plus a Dominican Republic loss at El Salvador.
A Montserrat win and a Dominican Republic draw could also result in Montserrat finishing second, if the Emerald Boys are able to make up a four-goal goal difference.
Saint Lucia will be plenty motivated as well, as they sit just a point behind Montserrat and would like nothing better than to secure their place in League B for another season with a win, while dropping Montserrat to League C in the process.
