LOOKOUT, Montserrat – Montserrat and El Salvador will renew acquaintances when the two teams meet in a Group B clash in League B of the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League on Saturday at Blakes Estate Stadium in Lookout, Montserrat.
The Emerald Boys squared off against the Cuscatlecos in September 2018 in week one of Concacaf Nations League Qualifying, with El Salvador collecting a dramatic 2-1 win in Montserrat thanks to Oscar Ceren’s winning goal in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time.
Now 13 months later the two teams will meet with the stakes equally as big. At present, Montserrat sit atop the group with four points, but lurking behind is El Salvador with three points.
Leading the way for Montserrat is Spencer Weir-Daley, a player capable of producing the spectacular from anywhere on the pitch.
Meanwhile, El Salvador will counter with the likes of Ceren and midfield workhorse Marvin Monterroza, who is in excellent form with club side and 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League semifinalist Alianza.
The match concludes a three-match homestand for Montserrat, so three points would provide a big lift for the islanders prior to finishing the group with three matches away from home.
