MANAGUA, Nicaragua – Nicaragua and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines played to a 1-1 draw in Group C of League B in Concacaf Nations League action at the National Stadium in Managua, Nicaragua.
Nicaragua were on the attack immediately in the opening minute but Juan Barrera, the nation’s top scorer in qualifying with five goals, could not find the target.
Cheers burst from the fans at the National Stadium as Jaime Moreno headed a ball into goal, but that score was called back as offside.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines had one major opportunity in the first half, which came in the closing moments. Oalex Anderson received the ball near the top of the box and breezed past the goalkeeper to collect his 13th international goal in the 45+2’ for a 1-0 Vincy Heat lead.
Barrera had a prime opportunity to equalize in the 58th minute, but his shot from inside the area hit the side netting.
A Nicaragua corner in the 87th minute would finally provide the equalizer, as Jamol Yorke would hit the ball into his own net.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will host Dominica on Sunday, while Nicaragua will travel to Suriname.
