LOOKOUT, Montserrat – A late goal from Kurt Frederick helped Saint Lucia rescue a 1-1 draw against Montserrat in Group B of League B of the Concacaf Nations League on Tuesday afternoon at Blakes Estate Stadium in Lookout, Montserrat.
Montserrat had the bulk of play in the first 45 minutes and they were richly rewarded for their efforts with a goal right before halftime.
Spencer Weir-Daley, who produced several goal-scoring moments of magic in Concacaf Nations League Qualifying, waved his wand again and rocketed a right-footed shot into net for a 1-0 Montserrat lead.
Saint Lucia began to carve out chances over the course of the second half, but it was a penalty that would eventually yield the equalizer when Devone St. Prix was fouled in the Montserrat area in the 86’.
Up stepped Frederick to take the penalty and the 28-year-old hammered the spot kick home to round out the 1-1 scoreline, giving Saint Lucia a precious point.
