GROS ISLET, Saint Lucia – A first-half goal from Antonio Joseph helped Saint Lucia earn a 1-0 win over Dominican Republic in Group B of League B of the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League on Saturday night at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.
Saint Lucia looked set to open the scoring early in the 7’, but Dominican Republic DF Ernesto Trinidad made a goal-line clearance.
Saint Lucia continued with the pressure and they managed to breach the Dominican Republic defense in the 38’ when Chaim Roserie filtered a pass into Joseph, who fired in past GK Miguel Lloyd to make it 1-0 to Saint Lucia.
The visitors looked to pull level in the second half and Rudolph Gonzalez had a good look at goal in the 62’, but could not sneak his shot past Saint Lucia GK Lamar Joseph.
Saint Lucia were still creating chances as well and only a deflection off a defender kept Aaron Richard from making it two for the hosts in the 67’. Back it went the other way and Joseph had to be alert again to stop a stinging Dorny Romero shot.
In the end, Saint Lucia would prove too strong defensively, securing their first win of the CNL to keep their hopes alive of remaining in League B.
