ST. JOHN'S, Antigua and Barbuda – Jamaica have punched their ticket to the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup thanks to a 2-0 victory over Antigua and Barbuda in Group C of League B in the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League on Friday night at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda.
Maalique Foster scored in the first half, while Ricardo Morris struck in the second stanza in a win that also promotes the Reggae Boyz to League A. Jamaica are now 6W-2D-0L all-time against Antigua and Barbuda.
The hosts looked to score early and came close on a Jervez Lee header in the 23’. The Benna Boys also were boosted in the back by GK Molvin James, who made a spectacular save when left one-on-one with Jamaica FW Bobby Reid in the 27’.
Jamaica would eventually unlock the hosts’ defense in the 33’ when James could not hold onto Elvis Powell’s stinging shot and Maalique Foster was there to put in the rebound.
Antigua and Barbuda looked to respond in the second half, but Jamaica had other ideas and Ricardo Morris doubled the lead 2-0 in the 58’ with a strong left-footed finish.
From there, the Jamaican defense took over and secured the clean sheet victory to earn a first-place finish in the group.
