THE VALLEY, Anguilla -- Guatemala picked up their third straight win of the campaign and all but assured themselves of promotion to League B by defeating Anguilla 5-0 on Saturday evening at the Raymond Gordon Ernest Guishard Technical Center in Anguilla.
Danilo Guerra, who exploded for four goals when these two teams met back in September, opened the scoring in just the 4th minute with a volley from close range.
Edward Santeliz, who entered the game as a sub in the 13th minute to replace the injured Pedro Altán, scored his first ever international goal to make it 2-0 in the 17th.
The home fans got something to cheer for in the 22nd minute when Anguilla appeared to pull one back, though the goal was ruled offside by the thinnest of margins.
Anguilla did well to grow into the game after that, and enjoyed a nice period of success, sending in crosses and rattling off some long range efforts over the next 15 minutes.
Marvin Ceballos added a third for Los Chapines via penalty in the 61st minute. Wilber Perez headed home the fourth in the 72nd. Wilson Pineda got the fifth and final goal in the 92nd minute.
Guatemala are now sitting on nine points, and though Anguilla still have zero they’re certainly trending upwards heading into their home match with Puerto Rico on Tuesday.
