WILLEMSTAD, Curaçao -- League C Group D play continues Monday night when Sint Maarten host group leaders Guadeloupe.
The home side needs a win to stay in the fight for promotion and a 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup playoff spot, but it won’t be easy against a Guadeloupe team that rolled to two victories back in September.
Les Gwada Boys won their two matches by a combined score of 8-1, and got six different goalscorers in on the action. A win against Sint Maarten would all but crown them as group champions.
Despite two defeats, Sint Maarten have performed well, particularly Gerwin Lake who has been nothing short of dazzling through two matches. He’s scored five of the team’s last seven goals, including all three for the team in the group stage so far.
Led by their young star, Sint Maarten played a fantastic first half against Turks and Caicos in their last outing, breaking down the opposing defense with well placed one-touch passes and eye catching dribbling moves.
Sint Maarten have now scored in four consecutive matches and have yet to be shut out in 2019. The challenge on Monday will be stopping a team that put five goals past them the last time they met.
