ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada – A late goal from Jamal Charles helped Grenada top Saint Kitts and Nevis 2-1 in Group A of League B of the Concacaf Nations League on Thursday night at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada.
Grenada enjoyed a strong start and grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 17’. A deep giveaway in the Saint Kitts and Nevis half allowed Kairo Mitchell to round GK Julani Archibald before calmly stroking home a right-footed shot for the goal.
The Sugar Boyz had a good look at goal as well shortly before halftime through Yohannes Mitchum, but a heavy touch allowed Grenada GK Jason Belfon to smother the ball.
Saint Kitts and Nevis needed a spark and it came off the bench from Tahir Hanley, who made an immediate impact by receiving a pass from Mitchum and scoring to pull the visitors level 1-1 in the 57’.
After each side struck the crossbar with shots, Charles would emerge in the 82’ to score the winning goal by receiving a long ball and slotting in past Archibald to deliver the three points for the hosts.
