LOOKOUT, Montserrat – A second-half goal from Adrian Clifton lifted Montserrat past the Dominican Republic 2-1 on Saturday to open Group B play in League B of the Concacaf Nations League at the Blakes Estate Stadium in Lookout, Montserrat.
The result makes it four wins in a row for Montserrat in Concacaf competition, following their three straight wins to close Nations League Qualifying.
It would be the visitors who would strike first though, as a loose ball in the area fell to Joshua Garcia, whose right-footed strike rippled the net for a 1-0 lead in the 23’.
The Emerald Boys responded almost immediately through James Comley, who leveled the score 1-1 in the 29’ with an excellent header off a corner kick.
The momentum was with the home side and they would again strike via a corner kick as a looping in-swinger was thumped in by Clifton for the winning goal.
Both teams will return to action on Tuesday, with Montserrat taking on Saint Lucia and the Dominican Republic looking to rebound against El Salvador.
