ROSEAU, Dominica – A wonder-goal from Carlos Chavarria and a brace from Byron Bonilla powered Nicaragua past Dominica 4-0 in Group D of League B of the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League on Monday afternoon at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica.
The Pinoleros struck for their first in the 42’ thanks to the genius of Chavarria, who received a pass onto his chest, juggled a touch and then hit an overhead kick that beat Dominica GK Glenson Prince for a 1-0 lead, giving Chavarria his third goal in two games.
Dominica increased the pressure in the second half in hopes of pulling level, but the task got a lot tougher when substitute Nick Anthony was sent off with a straight red card for a tackle in the 63’.
With the man advantage, Nicaragua took control and Chavarria go to play the role of playmaker and create Nicaragua’s second when he flighted in a cross that Bonilla headed in to double the lead to 2-0 in the 71’.
Nicaragua would then polish things off late, first with a Bonilla penalty conversion in the 84’ and then a stoppage time score from Ricardo Mendieta in the 90+2’ to complete the 4-0 scoreline.
