BRIDGETOWN, Barbados -- The Bajan Tridents of Barbados will host the visiting Cayman Islands on Tuesday in a game that will decide League C Group A.
These two have been tangled at the top of the standings all tournament long, and it all comes down to this final match. The Cayman Islands are through with a win or a draw. Barbados needs a win.
If the excitement surrounding a group decider between two top teams wasn’t enough, things get even more interesting when one recalls the first time these two teams met back in September, the Cayman Islands emerged 3-2 winners in an all-time classic match.
Barbados are a feared opponent at home on the Wildey Turf, with five goals for and zero conceded so far in the group. Nicholas Blackman leads the way with three strikes in front of the home crowd.
The Cayman Islands have one win and one loss each on the road, having defeated the US Virgin Islands in September and fallen to Saint Martin in October; their only dropped points of the competition thus far.
Neither side have ever qualified to a Concacaf Gold Cup, and topping the group would put them just two series wins away from a berth in Concacaf’s continental championship.
