GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands -- Barbados is headed to George Town’s Truman Bodden Sports Complex on Sunday for a match that will have huge implications in Group A of League C in the Concacaf Nations League.
The Cayman Islands will be making their home debut in the tournament and are carrying a lot of momentum after an impressive 2-0 win on the road against the US Virgin Islands earlier in the week.
Barbados won in their opener as well, defeating Saint Martin 4-0 at home in Wildey. Omani Leacock was the man of the match, with a goal and two assists in the contest.
The clash is between the top two teams in the group and the winner will seize control of the coveted promotion spot at the one-third mark of the competition.
This will be the second ever meeting between the two sides, with Barbados having won a Caribbean Cup encounter with the Turtles 6-1 long ago. The Cayman Islands, backed by their home crowd, are confident that this match will have a different outcome.
Michael Martin (CAY) and Nicholas Blackman (BAR) are tied for the group lead with two goals apiece, so the match will be a showdown between top scorers as well as the two top teams.
