GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands -- In a clash of League C Group A leaders in the Cayman Islands, the home side pulled off a thrilling 3-2 win over Barbados on Sunday night.
The hosts got off to a dream start in the fifth minute when Michael Martin banged in his third goal of the competition to put the Turtles ahead.
But the Bajans came for a fight and in the 13th minute they equalized when Akeem Hill perfectly placed a header into the top right corner past Albertini Holness.
In the aftermath of Hill’s goal, the game continued at a furious pace, and both sides took turns creating chances, though Barbados had the better looks in the first half.
Barbados continued to push forward in the second half, but it was Jonah Ebanks who found himself free in the box and matched Hill’s header with a corner shot of his own to put the Cayman Islands ahead 2-1.
Just as in the first half, it took only a few minutes for Barbados to respond, when captain Rashad Jules snuck one just past the inside post to level things up in the 74th.
But before the visitors could even celebrate, Jorel Bellafonte found himself in the right place at the right time and put the Cayman Islands ahead once more, this time for good for the 3-2 winner in the 75th minute.
