NASSAU, The Bahamas -- With two matches to play in League C Group B, Bahamas took a big step towards winning promotion and a place in the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup qualifiers with a 3-0 victory over the visiting British Virgin Islands at the Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau.
In a frantic opening period that saw both sides get good chances, Marcel Joseph opened the scoring for the home side in the ninth minute with a nice long-range effort.
All-time leading scorer Lesly St. Fleur snuck behind the defense on a long ball and doubled the lead soon after in the 11th minute to quickly establish complete control of the match for the Baha Boyz.
Bahamas kept up the pressure and peppered the visitors’ goal with shots, and Quinton Carey added the third in the 36th minute on a rebound.
In the second half the British Virgin Islands held strong defensively, but the Nature Boyz couldn’t pull anything back. Bahamas keeper Dwayne Whylly played a big part in that, with five saves on the day.
The victory puts Bahamas three points ahead of Bonaire heading into their final showdown on Sunday.
