THE VALLEY, Anguilla -- Anguilla will play their Concacaf Nations League home opener on familiar turf in The Valley, looking to flip the script on a Guatemala side that defeated them 10-0 in Guatemala City back in September.
That result may not have been the prettiest for the Dolphins, but they have a few advantages this time around that they lacked in the first encounter.
For one, they are at home and should be much more comfortable in their local stadium than they were in Guatemala. Their most recent victory came in The Valley back in March against Saint Martin.
Second of all, they’re prepared for Danilo Guerra this time around. Nobody was expecting a four-goal outburst from the veteran in Guatemala City, but that element of surprise is gone now for Los Chapines.
From Guatemala’s perspective, the secret is out now, but they won’t feel like they need it. Fifteen goals for and zero conceded so far is an impressive feat, and the visitors will be looking to continue the winning streak.
If they do so, Guatemala will take a big step toward promotion to Concacaf Nations League B and qualifying to the 2021 Gold Cup playoff path.
