Saint Martin shakes up Group A with win over first place Cayman Islands

THE VALLEY, Anguilla -- Saint Martin stunned Group A leaders Cayman Islands 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to earn their first points in Nations League history at Raymond E. Gushard TC in Anguilla.

Both teams saw their chances in the early going, with none finer than Wilfried Dalmat’s free kick off the woodwork in the 22nd minute.

The crowd was brought to its feet when Yannick Fidelin nearly put Saint Martin ahead from beyond midfield in the 43rd minute but ultimately hit almost the exact same spot on the post as Dalmat.

The breakthrough finally came from Yannick Bellechasse in the 64th minute, who put away a rebound from another Dalmat free kick to give Saint Martin the lead.

Bellechasse doubled the lead in the 71st with a nifty finish past the keeper to make it 2-0 and secure the three points for Saint Martin.

But the big man wasn’t done, and blasted home a missile to complete his hat-trick in the 75th minute. It was a historic triple for his first three goals at the international level.

The win breaks an eight match losing streak for the home side, who now are only three points off the group lead. These two sides will rematch in George Town on Tuesday.
